Evaluation Questions.

1. In What Ways Does Your Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms And Conventions Of Real Media Products?
My media product was chosen as a music magazine. I feel as though my magazine follows all of the codes and conventions of an already existing music magazine. I have followed the codes by using typical colours, fonts and images of magazine of the genre I have chosen. I have chosen a rock genre.
This is a typical music magazine product. As seen in the masthead there is a cracked feel, like in my media product the masthead is also cracked. This would show forms and conventions being used from an already existing media product. I have also used a big main image in the way the existing product has, with big, bold text over the top. I have also used bold but created a smashed effect, this isn't a real challenge to media products, but is different all the same.

This is the contents pages. I feel as though although my contents page matches normal codes, such as fonts, colours and images, I have challenged the media products by presenting my information in smaller sections whereas in the media product the information is presented straight down the page.
There is also more information being displayed on the actual magazine product. Although I feel as though mine gets straight to the point, and isn't overflowed. This is evidence of challenging.

The rest of my media music magazine pretty much follows the normal codes and conventions. I feel as though following these codes aided me to create a high quality true to life magazine. If it looks more true to life I feel as though it will be better quality and it also gave me an interesting basis to then continue and create my own personal twists on the codes and the magazine as a whole.

2. How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups?
My media product is aimed at both men and women (boys and girls) at basically all ages. Although my magazine would attract people who are into visiting concerts and for people who are perhaps in there own band who want to make it big.By using the images I did of the younger generation shows that people with an ambition and a love for music could become famous and successful no matter what age they may be. I feel as though using younger people shows the audience that they could become the next best thing when they put there mind to it and staying out trouble. Unlike the stereotypical views of the younger generation becoming 'yobs' and obsessed with the latest technology.

I feel as though my media product really shows how society can change there vies of the younger generation, showing mainly in my double page spread that they can get a job and become successful from doing what they love, and not just stereotypically lazy and unsuccessful. It really sends out the message and represents the younger generation as a good foundation to shape the future.

3. What Kind Of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product And Why?
I feel as though an appropriate institution to distribute my media music magazine product would be Bauer. Bauer consumer media is already associated with the existing music magazines of this particular genre. This would mean that my magazine would already have a unique selling point and  guaranteed consumers. The company operates in 15 countries world wide, which would be good for my magazine as it would have a very large target audience.

Using Bauer would then show the company does not only distribute heavy music styles but also a softer music genre, which would then appeal to a wider market of consumers and also would launch my own magazine to many people who may not have experienced anything like this type of magazine before.

4+5: Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product? How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?
My target audience would be mainly the younger generation of both sex's. Probably around the ages of 16-25. This would be the kind of age range in which would be interested in my media product. This is mainly being the fact many people of this age would be appealed to visiting gigs and concerts, also learning about the bands that are out there now and mainly for inspiration of the career they may want to pursue. I feel as though my target audience would be attracted to my magazine as it offers so much for a young reader who are interested in the music genre.

I feel as though the layout, colour scheme and images really attracts my target audience as the people in the images are all round about at the same age. This would really inspire consumers to buy and read my music magazine media product. The colours are appealing and interesting and work well together which would draw the audience attention.

6. What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process Of Constructing This Product?
When constructing my music magazine I have learnt many things about the new technologies I have been exploring.I have learnt many new tools on the programme In design. Once faced with the new programme I struggled using the placement tool, I struggled placing images onto a new sheet. I had soon overcome this when I had to start adding my own images to my magazine build up and I learned that I had to manage the placement tool to add a box and then allow for my images to be placed in the box.

I also struggled learning to use the programme photoshop. I struggled to use the pen tool when trying to crop out parts of an images to create a more interesting shape. I overcame this problem by practicing and managing to work each element in slow motion.

Using Indesign I found changing the colours and effects of the fonts became rather difficult this is because there were only certain boxes and tools to change the fonts. I overcame this problem by repeating and practicing.

7. Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task , What Do You Think You Have Learnt In The Progression From It To The Full Product?
I feel as though I have learnt to control the programmes better. In doing so I feel as though I have been more successful in creating a high quality magazine.
I think looking back at my preliminary task I think my images, where at a lower quality than in my main task. I think I have certainly learned how to present an image on a page in an attractive way.
I also feel as though I have managed my fonts better. I think I have explored with more detailed fonts and also adding more colour showed that I now have a better understanding of how a magazine should be layed out in a pleasing way for the audience.

In conclusion I feel as though I have learnt how to use the programmes in depth from my preliminary task as I have created a better quality magazine during my main task. I have also learned how things should be layed out, as so they look more interesting and appealing to an audience.

Magazine Final Outcomes

This is my final outcome of my music magazine. I followed typical conventions of an already existing magazine of this genre. I chose the genre of rock music. I chose this genre as it gave me many different angles for images that needed to be taken. I stuck to the colour scheme of black, white and blue as they are shown to be colours that work naturally and well together. They also portray the fact that the magazine is of the rock genre.

I added information about typical bands to that genre, I did this as it creates a more authentic feel to the magazine genre as a whole.
I also used reds to make the words stand out against the black.

I feel as though my images I have chosen are up to a good standard. I feel like they fit into my genre of my music magazine very well. My largest main image works very well with the colour scheme of the text. I also feel the others are bright and positioned well on the page.

This is my contents page of my music magazine. I continued with my chosen colour scheme of black and white but added purple, to give variety within my work. I also stuck with the same fonts as I did on my front cover. I also kept with a black background so my magazine flows better and looks more like a conventional magazine that is already out there in the real media industry.
I added my own twist on a contents page by adding sections as apposed to one big list. It makes the magazine much more interesting and adding my own ideas to what I feel as though a music magazine could really be like.
I think my images I have taken to go on my contents page are of a high quality and represent the genre I have chosen well.

This is my final draw up of my double page spread. I feel as though this page went very well.
I stuck to my conventional colours but added some brighter colours to draw the audience's attention towards the page.
I again used more of my own images, I feel they connect with the page very well as they are bright and stand out but are still appropriate to the genre being used.
I used a plan font yet which is still visable and easy to read.
I really feel as though my double page spread has been successful and is finished up to a good quality.

Music Magazine Fonts'

These are a few fonts in which I could use to use as my masthead for my magazine.
1. I think this font is appropriate for the genre of music magazine as it's simple yet effective as it is bold and clear.
2. I like this font, I think this may be the one I chose to use in my final piece, it plays along the Kerrang type masthead, this shows it would be an effective font to use in my music magazine.
3. This is my third font I have suggested, I really like this font as it has an effective serif swirls and has an anger and rock theme look to it, this would fit my magazine perfectly.
4. This is my fourth font, although this looks an effective bold and strong like the genred music I have chosen, it is difficult to see what exactly the writing actually says, this is why I wouldn't chose it for my final masthead, it would not catch the audiences eye.
5. This is my final idea for my masthead. I think this is an effective font as it looks bold and big, like the music, however something doesn't appeal too me about this font, which is why I wouldn't use it.

I have chosen to use purple as my main colour within my magazine, I chose this as it is a brighter take on  black yet the colour is just as as effective. It makes the writing look more interesting and much more appealing.

Existing Music Magazines

This Image is the Kerrang music magazine. Usually associated with rock type music. It follows the codes and conventions of a general music magazine for it's genre.
For example, using a smashed masthead, implies the music is loud, and full on, which the bands in this genre are.
There is a main image of an artist who is well known too the genre, making the audience recognize that he will be the main story within the magazine.
There are also smaller images of famous artists from this genre, this attracts the readers attention.
Using large headings increases the importance of the magazine as a whole. It uses the technique, 'puff' this is where using words like 'greatest ever' to puff up the importance of what is being said.
There is also the needed barcode, date and issue number along the bottom right hand side of the magazine. This is included in any good well known magazine, no matter what genre the magazine is.

This image is of the magazine spin, this magazine is usually associated with the similar yet milder music as kerrang As seen again, a well known band to the genre are on the front, however, they are in front of a white background, which suggests the music is calm and clean. These would be the main attraction from an audiences point of view to buy the magazine.
The fonts used in this cover are bold and simple straight to the point, this would imply that the music is simple and to the point.
There are also some other well known bands too the genre written on the cover, however not as important as the main cover story.
The magazine cover also holds a barcode, date and issue number, like any magazine should.

This is a typical cover of a pop alternative music magazine.
The main story is clearly shown on the front by using a large picture and big bold writing running over the top of the image.
The image is overlapping the masthead, which suggests the importance of the main story. Having a very well known person on the cover is also an audience attraction.
The colour scheme is kept at a red and black kind of theme. This could relate to the british theme as shown through a picture on the right hand side of the cover.
This magazine appears to have the barcode near the top of the cover, which isn't really typical of a genral magazine, usually they are placed in the bottom right hand corner.
Overall this magazine isn't nessersarily the easiest of genres to spot, however the colour scheme is stuck to and is eye catching to an audience.
